Welcome to Plymouth Judo Club

Judo was developed from ju-jitsu, a brutal and often lethal form of unarmed combat in 19th century Japan. As a useful method of restraining violent criminals, judo was quickly adopted by Japanese police forces. Throughout the 20th century, it gained increasing world attention until in 1964, it was accepted as an official sport in the Olympic Games.
Plymouth Judo Club will host its' Annual Open Championship on Sunday 23rd November. Please come along to enjoy this spectacular judo competition.
Today, judo is widely recognised as an ideal pursuit for increasing health and fitness, self-confidence and self-discipline, co-ordination and suppleness. When taught and supervised by properly qualified instructors - as at Plymouth Judo Club - injuries are so rare that the sport is widely recognised as being safer than football! Just one reason why judo is so popular with children of both genders and approved of by their parents.
Members of Plymouth Judo Club can choose the route of competitions and gradings (working towards the fabled black belt - and beyond), or they can simply enjoy judo as a regular and healthy recreational activity.
Plymouth Judo Club is hosted by Alan Kimber - 6th Dan and a national referee, Shane Kimber - 3rd Dan and Allan Perry - 1st Dan.
